Lakehouse by Barry McGlashan
Marwan Batoota 3/8/2026 LondonHave you ever felt your body starting to lean
to its truest intentions? Cycling through
Holland Park Avenue, it was the tallest trees
who spoke the softest and handed you a
cold plum. And so you did what we all do in
moments of gratitude: you offer water in return.
Amongst pastime doings I often think
of all I love, but not too dearly, so the night
steals from me only what I can accept to lose.
On patches of dry, brown leaves, I dosed
off to the gentle air - this is skin to dirt recovery.
Yes, today the kindest therapy is green.
Over in the mountains of Algeria and Morocco,
needles grow in tufted clusters and end
up in your hands mixed with mandarin
rind. Your body is not a temple but a vessel
for discovering rose petals blowing off
a sharp cliff and granting your heart the slowest
sink. When was the last time you woke
up and quietly danced with the snow?
